Akron attorney Roberto to be next president-elect

Columbus, Ohio (May 15, 2009) – Akron attorney Carmen V. Roberto today became the Ohio State Bar Association’s (OSBA) president-elect at the Association’s Annual Convention in Cleveland. Roberto will take office as president of the OSBA on July 1, 2010.  

“I am honored to have been elected by my peers,” Roberto said. “The OSBA is a well-run organization and I look forward to working with the staff to explore new ways that we can improve our excellent member services.”

President-elect Roberto practices with the Akron firm of Bernlohr Wertz, LLP, in the areas of criminal defense and civil litigation. He represents OSBA District 11 on the Board of Governors, chairs the OSBA Ohio Lawyer Board of Editors and is chair of the OSBA Membership, Public and Media Relations and Publications Committee. He also serves on the OSBA Task Force on Gender Fairness and is a member of the Negligence Law and Traffic Law committees. He was also a member of the Ohio State Bar Foundation Fellows Class of 2006.

 Also active in his local community’s bar activities, Roberto has served as president of the Akron Bar Association and the Ohio Metropolitan Bar Association Consortium. He is currently on the boards of the Akron Bar Association and the Akron Bar Foundation.

In the community, Roberto has served on the Green Planning Commission and the Lake Township Zoning Board. He was also the attorney’s chair for the United Way. A former prosecutor and law director for the city of Cuyahoga Falls, he has served as a special prosecutor for cases in Youngstown and Cuyahoga Falls. 

Roberto graduated from the University of Connecticut and the University of Akron School of Law. He and his family live in Hartville. 

The Ohio State Bar Association, founded in 1880, is a voluntary association representing approximately 25,000 members of the bench and bar of Ohio as well as nearly 4,000 legal assistants and law students.  Through its activities and the activities of its related organizations, the OSBA serves both its members and the public by promoting the highest standards in the practice of law and the administration of justice.
