State bar president to honor Northeast Ohio lawyers

COLUMBUS (Sept. 21, 2009) - The president of the Ohio State Bar Association (OSBA) will visit Geneva-on-the-Lake on Tuesday, Sept. 29 to speak to area attorneys about current issues facing the legal profession, and to honor area attorneys.

John F. Norton of Chesterland and Concord resident John W. Wiles will be recognized for 50 years of service to the legal profession, and Carolyn J. Paschke of Newbury will receive the Ohio State Bar Foundation Community Service Award for Attorneys 40 and Under.

Barbara Howard, 2009-2010 OSBA president, will address the annual luncheon meeting of OSBA District 18 at The Lodge and Conference Center at Geneva State Park (4888 State Highway 534, Geneva-on-the-Lake). OSBA District 18 includes 681 members who practice in Ashtabula, Geauga, Lake and Trumbull counties.

David A. McGee, District 18 representative on the OSBA Board of Governors, will preside over the meeting, beginning at noon, which will include the election of one member to the OSBA Board of Governors and three members to the OSBA Council of Delegates.  Stuart W. Cordell, president of the Ashtabula County Bar Association, will deliver welcoming remarks.  OSBA members are welcome to attend the business meeting at no charge.

Before the luncheon meeting and recognition, optional continuing legal education (CLE) seminars will be offered from 9:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. for a total of 2.75 CLE credit hours (registration and continental breakfast begins at 8:30 a.m.).  Advance seminar/lunch registration is $86 for OSBA members and $101 for non-members; seminar-only registration is $60 for members and $70 for non-members; lunch-only is $26 for members and $31 for non-members.  After Sept. 22, $25 will be added to the total registration fee.

The Ohio State Bar Association, founded in 1880, is a voluntary association representing approximately 25,000 members of the bench and bar of Ohio as well as nearly 4,000 legal assistants and law students.  Through its activities and the activities of its related organizations, the OSBA serves both its members and the public by promoting the highest standards in the practice of law and the administration of justice.
