Columbus, Ohio (July 1, 2013) – Dayton attorney Jonathan Hollingsworth today assumed a one-year term as  the Ohio State Bar Association’s (OSBA) 133rd  president.

“This is an exciting time for the OSBA,” said Hollingsworth.  “We have a new executive director with exciting ideas for our future who begins her tenure today, and we are focused on identifying and meeting the needs of today’s lawyers.  The membership, board and staff, working together, will continue allowing the OSBA to provide our core services that assist lawyers in their practice of law, and to stay ahead of the curve in terms of new services and the way we deliver them.”

Hollingsworth is principal in the Dayton firm of J. Hollingsworth & Associates, LLC, where he concentrates on litigation, employment, corporate and business, insurance defense, medical malpractice, personal injury and legal disciplinary matters. He began his career at Porter Wright Morris & Arthur LLP, and later became a shareholder in the firm of Washington & Hollingsworth.

Hollingsworth has taught Negotiation and Dispute Resolution in the Graduate Management Program at Antioch University McGregor in Yellow Springs, Ohio, and Law Practice Management at the University of Dayton School of Law.

A former president of the Dayton Bar Association, Hollingsworth has served on the OSBA Board of Governors, and chaired the board’s Membership, Public & Media Relations and Publications Committee. He has also served on its Audit Committee. Hollingsworth chaired the OSBA’s Advisory Council on Diversity Initiatives. He is also a past chair of the Board of Commissioners on Grievances and Discipline for the Supreme Court of Ohio and has served on the Supreme Court of Ohio Task Force on the Code of Judicial Conduct and the Task Force on Rules of Professional Conduct.

"While much about the practice of law remains constant, there is much that has changed,” said Hollingsworth.  “Technology and the instant access to legal information present both opportunities and challenges.  So, too, does the need to remain relevant to both longtime practitioners and those just entering the practice.  In addition, we need to be resolute in our commitment to being open and welcoming to all in our profession.”

In addition to his service to state and local bar associations and the legal profession, Hollingsworth has served the greater Dayton community as chair of the Dayton-Montgomery County Port Authority. Other past community involvements include the Dayton Urban League, Family Service Association of Dayton, Greater Dayton Public Television, Greater Dayton Volunteer Lawyers Project, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Dayton, Dayton Bar Foundation and the Montgomery County Transportation Improvement District.

“We’re at the dawn of a new era for the OSBA, one that is full of promise and focused on our ‘can-do’ spirit,” said Hollingsworth.  “The lawyers of Ohio, and, indeed the clients they serve, can count on the OSBA to support lawyers in their practices and insure the public’s trust and confidence in the legal system.”

Hollingsworth is a 1980 graduate of Harvard University and earned his juris doctor degree from the University of Michigan Law School in 1983. Hollingsworth is married to Linda K. Hollingsworth and they reside in Dayton. They have five children (Christopher, Kimberly, Demetrius, Bradford and Natasha) and six grandchildren (Brooklyn, Elysse, Caiden, Jamison, Saqqara and CJ).

The Ohio State Bar Association, founded in 1880, is a voluntary association representing approximately 25,000 members of the bench and bar of Ohio as well as nearly 4,000 legal assistants and law students. Through its activities and the activities of its related organizations, the OSBA serves both its members and the public by promoting the highest standards in the practice of law and the administration of justice.
