OSBA paralegal definition
A paralegal is a person, qualified by education, training or work experience who is employed or retained by a lawyer, law office, corporation, governmental agency or other entity and who performs substantive legal work for which a lawyer is responsible.

All OSBA members have free access to one of the best legal research sites on the Internet, Casemaker.

As a benefit of membership, paralegals can attend three live OSBA continuing legal education (CLE) courses per year free of charge (not valid for OSBA annual convention).  This access to the substantial legal curriculum offered by OSBA CLE provides associate members and the attorneys for whom they work a greater ability to serve their clients.

Committees and sections
All paralegal members are automatically added to the roster of the OSBA Paralegals Committee.  In addition, the OSBA has more than 50 other committees and sections that associate members are encouraged to join. A complete listing of sections and committees is available on the membership application. Sections require an additional payment of only $3 each for paralegal members. Committee membership is free.

OSBA staff develops relationships with vendors who offer our members discounts on products and services that will benefit them and their practices. Vendor services include credit card processing, payroll services, website design and hosting services, marketing assistance, retirement planning, car rental, computers, credit card, legal directory, office supplies, overnight shipping and a workers' compensation group rating program.

All members receive the Paralegal News newsletter.  Published three times per year, it contains information pertinent to your job responsibilities, as well as other news about your profession and the OSBA.  Associate members also receive the Ohio Lawyer magazine as well as the OSBA Report Online daily via e-mail.

Membership is based on the calendar year, and paralegal dues are $85 per year. Dues are prorated quarterly: 25 percent on April 1, 50 percent on July 1, and 75 percent on Sept. 1. As a paralegal member, you will also have the option to receive your own subscription to the Ohio State Bar Association Report for an additional $50 per year (regular price $150). If you would like a subscription to the Report, mark the appropriate box on the application.
