ABA urges state and local bars to help defeat burdensome tax legislation affecting law firms

On Jan. 31, 2014, the American Bar Association sent a Legislative Action Alert to all state and local bars urging them to adopt resolutions and send letters to Congress opposing draft legislation that would require all law firms and other personal service businesses with annual gross receipts over $10 million to use the accrual method of accounting and pay taxes on income long before it is actually received.

On Sept. 26, 2013, Ohio State Bar Association President Jonathan Hollingsworth, on behalf of the Ohio State Bar Association, sent letters to U.S. House of Representatives Patrick J. Tiberi and Jim Renacci to share the Association's concern regarding these tax accounting changes.
