Columbus attorney announces candidacy for 2013 OSBA president-elect

Belinda S. BarnesBelinda S. Barnes has announced her candidacy for president-elect of the Ohio State Bar Association. The election will take place at the Association’s Annual Convention in Cleveland from May 8-11, 2013.

Barnes graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1984 from The Ohio State University with a B.S. in Economics and then obtained her law degree from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, graduating in 1987 with honors.

Barnes has been a member of the OSBA since 1987, and is serving her second year on the Board of Governors where she chairs the Advisory Council on Diversity Initiatives and serves on the Budget and Headquarters Committee. She was the vice-chair of the OSBA Judicial Campaign Advertising Monitoring Committee from 2002-2011 and has been a member of the OSBA Council of Delegates since 2006. She became a fellow of the Ohio State Bar Foundation this year.

Barnes has been a member of the Columbus Bar Association (CBA) since 1987, and was its president in 2006-2007. Belinda remains active with the CBA serving on its Judicial Screening Committee and is on the Board of Directors for Columbus Bar Services, Inc. She is also a fellow of the Columbus Bar Foundation (CBF) where she is on the Board of Governors. She also serves on the Investment Committee for both the CBA and the CBF.

Barnes is also a member of the Women Lawyers of Franklin County and the Ohio Association of Civil Trial Attorneys. She is the chair of the Ohio Notary Association.

Barnes is a partner with the Columbus law firm of Gallagher, Gams, Pryor, Tallan & Littrell, LLP. For the last 25 years, Barnes has been a civil trial attorney who primarily represents individuals and companies who have been sued for money damages.

Barnes grew up in Marysville, Ohio. She and her husband of 20 years live in Westerville with their two children, ages 10 and 8. 

The OSBA is known throughout the United States as being a premier State Bar Association. It provides multiple benefits to its members, but is constantly striving to provide useful services to its members. In these challenging economic times, the OSBA is reaching out to Ohio attorneys by providing them with up-to-date tools to most effectively and efficiently represent their clients while maintaining high ethical standards and exercising professionalism.
