Reminder: Homeowner's deeds or records of title can be viewed for free

House and documentThe Franklin County Recorder’s Office is notifying homeowners of a company charging $89 for homeowner’s deeds or records of title, which can be viewed for free.

The activity by a company, which is unaffiliated with any government agency, was called questionable and misleading by Franklin County Recorder Daphne Hawk’s office, but it is not illegal.

The documents are public records and can be viewed online for no charge or obtained on paper for $3 from the Franklin County Recorder’s Office.

“We’ve been aware of this situation in other states but this is the first instance of the services being offered locally, with solicitations being mailed to Central Ohio homeowners,” Hawk said in a statement.
