Weir Award seeks lawyers demonstrating exceptional ethics and professionalism

The Ohio State Bar Association is accepting nominations for the 2018​ Eugene R. Weir Award for Ethics and Professionalism. Established in 1998, the Weir Award recognizes the demonstration of exceptional professional responsibility among Ohio lawyers.

The OSBA Board of Governors established the award to honor the memory of Eugene R. Weir, a former member of the Board of Governors. During his tenure with the OSBA, Weir served as chair and longtime member of the Legal Ethics and Professional Conduct Committee. He also was a member of the Committee to Review Ohio’s Disciplinary Process, and he served as chair of the Ohio Supreme Court’s Committee to Study Creeds of Professionalism.

Weir was a county prosecutor and senior member of the law firm of Frase, Weir, Baker & McCollough. He championed improvements in lawyer regulation and was a strong advocate of professionalism and legal ethics.
